Glasgow Wildcats Win the Inaugural British Invitational Netball Tournament

Friday 13th to Sunday 15th January 2012

Glasgow Wildcats stole the show to become the best of British at the British Invitational Netball Tournament, an inaugural tournament created with funding from Glasgow City Council to help develop a squad of elite players, who will compete for Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Glasgow Wildcats held a clean sheet, with a triple win over the three competing visiting teams, taking on: Northern Panthers - comprising a Northern Ireland select, England Under21s, and Premier Force, featuring a South of England line up.

With Northern Ireland and England under 21s at their tale, the Wildcats pulled off a stunning win of 3 games in row, as they gunned the metal with a combination of talented youth and experience, to demonstrate that they are on target to complete their preparations for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

This exciting new tournament witnessed Scotland’s leading players challenge themselves against some of the best players in Great Britain and Ireland and proved that they can hold their own. This is the first of a world class series of netball events to be held in the city in the lead up to Glasgow 2014. There has never been a more exciting time for netball in Scotland!

Denise Holland: Glasgow Wildcats and Scotland’s National Coach, said: “We have been making real progress as a side and we want to see this continue. We now have a fantastic mix of experience and talented young players in our squad and that will stand us in good stead as we continue our development over the coming weeks and month.”

Well done Denise that talent and growth showed this weekend!
